Michael s website http michaelking ca enjoy the. To secure the art into the frame there are a number of things you can use. Lay the canvas material down on the work surface and place the cut foam board on top of the canvas. Because the question of mounting has come up in my workshops i thought i d take a moment to describe my process.

For example on a 20 x 30 canvas i will have a canvas that is 21 x 31 and i make the gator board the same size. Measure two inches away from the foam board and make a hash mark around each side. I prefer to leave a 1 2 inch border on the canvas to allow easy handling of the canvas during the mounting. But better yet if you really love a piece you can later mount it on board.

Remove the foam board and trim the canvas with the scissors. In this case the frame and backing were flush so i picked up some flat brackets from my local hardware shop. If the panel and backing are not flush with the back of the frame you would use offset clips to secure the art into the frame.

I ve been doing a lot of plein air painting on pieces of canvas stapled to 1 2 inch thick foam board. Now i want to mount them on hardboard panels and then trim the edges. So i quickly make a set of tick marks around the print and trim it down to size. These paintings are easier to travel with than panels or stretched canvas you just stack them up like pancakes and interleave them with wax paper.

Does the panel need to be primed before i apply the adhesive. It is very important to check the length of the screw to be sure it doesn t come. A canvas board is a heavy multi ply board paper board with canvas wrapped around it.
